The AACC Exemplary CEO/Board Relationship Award recognizes a community college whose CEO/Board of Trustees collaborate and work together excellently, leading to effective community college governance.
Criteria used to evaluate applications are as follows:
Includes sustained and substantive professional development training/education for board members.
Maintains annual CEO evaluation that can be adapted to the rapidly changing trends and issues impacting two-year colleges and a self-evaluation for board members.
Demonstrates a progressive collaboration that promotes positive visibility for the college, economic and social vitality for the community, and ongoing commitment to student success.
Advocates for informed policies that advance community college(s) and their students at local, state, and national levels.
Exclusions:
Colleges that have previously won the award are eligible to apply five years after winning.
Exceptions:
Award finalists in a previous year can apply in the same category for the subsequent year. However, the finalist must submit an enhanced application. Enhanced means the applicant must strengthen the relationship between the CEO and the Board of Trustees.
General Guidelines and Nomination Instructions:
Nominee must be a current AACC member college and pay next year's membership fee.
The CEO of the nominating institution must electronically sign the nomination form.
Each award is given annually, and the honoree(s) will be recognized at AACC Annual.
Nominating packages (including required photos) must be submitted via the nomination form AND include the following:
Minimum two letters of support, one signed by the nominating college CEO.
Additional support materials (i.e., news coverage, fact sheet, descriptions) NOT TO exceed five (5) pages. All identifiers must be redacted (examples: Institution name, CEO name, location)
Five publication-quality photos (No PDFs): (1) publication-quality headshot of the CEO [300 dpi resolution or higher], (1) publication-quality headshot of the board chair [300 dpi resolution or higher], and (3) photos of a board meeting or the board engaging in college activities.
